Monterrey-born, Laguna Beach-raised Alonso Matea has become an Instagram sensation. The mini-fashionista has over 5,000 followers.
Everything started when his mother, Luisa Fernanda Espinosa, a freelance fashion stylist, began posting his pictures on her own Instagram account, which quickly collected around 127,000.Alonso's own account is expected to reach that number of followers, if not more.

Driven by her interest in creating new styles, Luisa started to dress Alonso Mateo up, and now she has passed on of her passion to her son. The boy gets his style from both his parents: his mother has contributed to Harper's Bazaar México and Latin America, and his father, José Agustín Valdés, is the owner and CEO of a private equity firm who always wears nice suits. They shop together as a family.
"I would put a scarf or a beanie on him and he wouldn't mind. After a while, when he was 3 almost 4, he started asking me for bow ties and suits!", Luisa told KNSTRCT.
Little Alonso Mateo developed a bow tie obsession after he saw FUN's "We Are Young" video and loved singer Nate Ruess' outfit. He also loves combat boots and sunglasses, his mother said. "He likes Little Marc Jacobs, Crewcuts, American Apparel, Dior, Kitson Kids and All Saints, but they recently closed the children's department. Nordstrom and Bloomingdales are the departments stores where I find good brands for him, too, like Peek and Diesel", revealed Luisa.
She also likes to bring Alonso Mateo to Gucci, Stella McCartney, Bon Point, H&M, Dolce & Gabanna and Target. "As long as it's nice quality, I'll take it", she said.
In an interview with joylovefashion.com, the proud mother confessed the two pick his outfit together. "We pick outfits together. He asks in the mornings for a specific thing. This can vary from a bow tie, jeans, loafers, certain sneakers, a suit, etc." The little fashionista has also given detail on his personal choices. "I love suits, sneakers and sunglasses. I like to dress like my dad, because he has cool suits", he told The Cut.
Many have criticized Luisa for posting her little son's pictures for everyone to see, backlashing at her parenting skills and calling Alonso "spoiled" and "materialistic". But she doesn't mind: "When we go shopping, if he wants loafers just like his daddy and I can afford them, I get them. We're fine raising our son. He's always polite, he's grounded, and he's a sweet boy."
"I don't think he really notices he's fashion forward. He's too young", she added.
